JAECOO J7 PHEV to Launch in Australia in 2025

Jaecoo J7 PHEV

Jaecoo, the sub-brand of Chery, will introduce its J7 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) to Australia in the first quarter of 2025. The J7 PHEV uses something the company calls SHS – Super Hybrid System – which combines a fifth-Generation turbo petrol 1.5TDGI Hybrid Engine with a Stepless Electric Hybrid DHT transmission that offers four driving modes—pure electric, series, parallel, and energy recovery – and a battery of yet-to-be-confirmed capacity. Together, the hybrid system can, Jaecoo says, deliver electric-only operation at low speeds of up to 90km (WLTP) – and efficient fuel performance at higher speeds. Estimated combined range is 1200km.

Jaecoo will reveal additional details related to specification and pricing closer to the on-sale date but much of the technology will presumably mirror that of its internal combustion engine-powered sibling, also scheduled for launch in early 2025 and for which more details are known. For example, that variant will have power-adjustable front seats, an electric tailgate, a 14.8-inch LCD touchscreen, a 360° panoramic camera system, wireless smartphone charging, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, front fog lamps, automatic windscreen wipers, 8 airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), and several advanced safety features.
