Toyota Unveils Enhanced GR Yaris Hot Hatch

Toyota unveiled an upgraded GR Yaris hot hatch at January’s Tokyo Auto Salon, with the new model receiving an increase in power and torque, improved cockpit design and a new eight-speed DirectShift automatic transmission.

An increase in maximum engine outputs for the GR Yaris’ 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine sees power grow from 200kW to a peak 224kW at 6500rpm with torque also boosted by 30Nm to 400Nm from 3250-4600rpm.

Power continues to be deployed to all four wheels with selectable torque distribution and a new drive mode select system which adjusts the electronic power steering, air conditioning and powertrain settings depending on user preferences.

Visual upgrades inside and out include tilting the dashboard and multimedia screen towards the driver by 15 degrees, while safety and convenience has been increased with additional active safety features and Toyota Connected Services added.

Toyota says further information on the new GR Yaris will be shared closer to Australian model production commencing late 2024.
