TOP QUESTIONS FOR NEW CAR BUYERS

For many of us, buying a new car is a huge financial commitment so there are a lot of factors to consider. Here are some of the top questions for new car buyers.

What is the availability of a particular model?

Vehicle availability will vary for different makes and models. Contact your preferred dealer for updated information around wait times and delivery options. This way you can make sure you’re only buying a car that’s guaranteed to arrive by the date you want to make it yours and drive it home.

Can you give a quote?

Most car dealerships will be able to provide a quote. If you know exactly what car you want, being able to get an upfront price saves you time. Each quote you receive should include a complete description of the car and a price breakdown including all fees, sales tax, documentation, and registration fees.

Do I get a better price for cash or no trade?

Put simply, no. Paying cash will not get you a better price when purchasing a new car. If you are looking to negotiate, have your research handy of what a fair purchase price is for your chosen vehicle, your trade-in value if applicable, and your personal budget.

What’s your interest rate?

Auto loan interest rates change daily and are personalised to the buyer’s circumstances. Your credit history, employment background and borrowing terms will help establish your capacity to repay the car loan and contribute to what interest rate you will receive. Contact your financial advisor to discuss your options.

Do you have a car to test drive?

Most car dealerships will allow you to take a short drive in any of their cars. A test drive gives you firsthand experience operating the vehicle, so you can know if it is right for you. During the test, you can see how smoothly the car accelerates, how easily the car steers and how the car handles stretches of rough road, hills, and motorways.

Do I need to plug in a hybrid?

A full hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) does not need to be plugged in to charge the battery, instead, the battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine. This category of hybrid has been popularised by Toyota, such as the hybrid RAV4, Camry and Corolla.

plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) uses a combination of petrol engine and battery, but benefits from an external source to be fully recharged. Depending on the amount of charge you have left and the type of driving you’re doing, PHEV cars have the benefit of being able to be driven exclusively on electric power or a mix of both.
