The New Mazda CX-80 to Arrive in Australia by End of 2024

Mazda has revealed the all-new CX-80, the latest model from Mazda’s Large Product Group which includes the Mazda CX-60 and North American market CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs.

At almost five metres long and with a wheelbase of over three metres, the three-row Mazda CX-80 is longer and higher than the two-row CX-60.

The big SUV will be available in Australia before the end of the year and will come with a choice of three all-hybrid powertrains at launch.

There will be the e-Skyactiv PHEV, combining a four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor to deliver a total system output of 241 kW and 500Nm. Alternative options are an in-line six-cylinder e-Skyactiv D diesel unit and e-Skyactiv G petrol powerplant – both with Mazda’s M Hybrid Boost 48V mild hybrid system.

All three engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Mazda’s i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system. Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) also offers a choice of four drive modes (plus EV mode for the PHEV) as already introduced in the Mazda CX-60.

The CX-80’s platform features double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension while the permanent all-wheel drive system is rear-biased.

Mazda says the CX-80 offers a comprehensive range of advanced i-Activsense driver assistance systems include Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) with new Unresponsive Driver Support (a feature also available on the forthcoming CX-70), Smart Brake Support (SBS) with new Head-on collision mitigation, and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) with new Head-on traffic avoidance assist.

Other tech includes the catalogue of Mazda Connected Services accessible in conjunction with the MyMazda app, and a new Trailer Hitch View which uses the centre display and advanced graphics to help position the vehicle relative
to a caravan or trailer.

In conjunction with two-fold-flat third row seats, the CX-80 will be available with two second-row configurations (dependent on model grade) – either a three-seat layout or two captain seats with the addition of a centre console.
