RAM Unwraps The 1,500 RHO and Bids Farewell to the Monster TRX

Ram has unveiled the 1500 RHO pick-up in the U.S. – a big beast of a pick-up powered by a 3-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged Hurricane engine pumping out 402kW and 706Nm.

The Ram 1500 RHO is equipped with a BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case that features upgraded internals, and independent front suspension that includes upper and lower control arms of forged aluminium and Bilstein shocks.

A Dana 60 rear axle with full floating axle shafts is standard equipment and handles the rear electronic locking differential and 35-inch tyres on 18-inch wheels. There’s adaptive damping and a five-link coil system at the rear, and Ram says rear axle travel is up to 355mm. Ground clearance for the 1500 RHO is 300mm.

Performance sees the 1500 RHO steam to 100km/h in around 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 190km/h.

Drive Modes include Auto, Tow, Mud/Sand, Rock, Snow, Sport, Baja, Custom, as well as a Valet mode. There’s also a Launch Control button.

Inside, there’s plenty of technology to keep everyone happy. There’s a 14.5-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 10.25-inch passenger display is an option too. A head-up display (HUD) is configurable up to 10 inches and features several different content areas at once, including a digital tachometer, lane departure, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation, current speed, current gear and speed limit. RAM says all HUD settings can be personalised and saved within the driver profiles.

Along with features such as wireless charging for phones, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and plenty of leather trim in the upholstery, the cabin of the 1500 RHO looks a pleasant place to be.

While there is no word yet on whether the 1500 RHO will make it to the Australian market, one could assume it will, especially as RAM is bidding farewell locally to the V8-powered TRX model.

With its departure, Ram Trucks Australia is offering local buyers one last opportunity to get their hands on the uber-powerful model in the guise of a tweaked Final Edition variant. 130 have been secured for the Australian market.

Power comes from a 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI V8 delivering 523kWkW and 882Nm.

Available in three new colours – Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue and Harvest Sunrise – the Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition features a unique combination of technology, graphics, performance and exterior appearance.

This includes Satin Titanium bead-lock capable wheels with a matching 6.2-litre hood badge and bed decal. Inside, the exclusive content includes Patina stitching on the dashboard, seats and an embroidered TRX logo on the seat back.

Also marking this model as something special is a TRX Final Edition cluster screen, ultra-premium centre console badge showcasing the build number, passenger-side TRX dashboard badge in Satin Titanium finish, Triaxle-suede door panel inserts and 4×4 weave matte carbon fibre on the instrument panel, doors, console and steering wheel.

The RAM TRX Final Edition is priced from $249,950 RRP.
