Pininfarina Unveils The B95 All-Electric Hyper Barchetta

Automobili Pininfarina have been busy. The company responsible for the Battista all-electric supercar have now unveiled the Pura Vision concept and this stunner, the B95.

The B95 Barchetta (a word that denotes an open-topped sportscar) is, like the Battista, a brutally powerful machine. It features the same powertrain but with a unique tune – one that enables a 0 to 100km/h sprint somewhere around the two second mark and a top speed of more than 300km/h.

That powertrain features a 120kWh lithium-ion battery, four independent electric motors – one driving each wheel – and peak power of 1400kW. The liquid-cooled, T-shaped battery pack is protected within a strong and lightweight carbon fibre housing and can be charged using DC fast chargers up to 270kW – for a 20-80 per cent top up in as little as 25 minutes.

There are five distinct drive modes that leverage Full Torque Vectoring to enable the driver to tailor power delivery and handling.

With no windscreen, you might think driving this car at speed would be a somewhat unpleasant experience, but up front there are two adjustable aero screens – inspired, the company says, by two-wheel motor racing and vintage fighter planes – that can be raised and lowered to move air over the B95 occupants.

Just 10 examples of the B95 are to be built and will be priced from €4.4 million ($AU7.4 million). That’s a pretty decent chunk of cash, but for that money, owners will not only get something rare and special, but a car that can be personalised in all manner of ways, making it unique.

The example revealed at Monterey is finished in metallic Bronzo Superga along with a Giallo Arneis gloss section at the front and atop the driver’s dome, which also features Black Gloss ‘95’ lettering. The body finish combines gold metallic flakes which Pininfarina says makes the accents appear gold in texture and colour during the day and gives them a bronze hue at night. There are forged aluminium, Matt Black wheels – 20-inch up front and 21-inch at the rear. The interior features carbon fibre, leather with bespoke embossing, aluminium, and houndstooth trim. It’s pretty impressive and one can only wonder what unique ideas owners will apply to their own B95.
