New Hybrid Variant Joins Kia’s Sportage Range in Australia

Kia’s Sportage Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) has landed. 

Available in two trims – the SX FWD Auto and GT-Line FWD Auto – the Sportage Hybrid Electric Vehicle is powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid system as the larger Sorento Hybrid, mating a 132kW/265Nm four-cylinder petrol engine with a 44kW/264Nm electric motor and a 1.49kWh battery. Combined petrol and electric output is 169kW and 350Nm.

Paired to the engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission. Power is transferred to the front wheels. Combined Fuel Consumption is 4.9L/100km.

Standard equipment across the two variants includes 18-inch machined alloy wheels, shift-by-wire dial-type gear selector, leather appointed steering wheel, steering wheel paddle shifters, AM/FM Radio, DAB Digital Radio, 12.3-inch Colour LCD Touch Screen Infotainment, Satellite Navigation Multimedia System, Personalised Profile (for Radio Favourites, Bluetooth Priority, etc), Bluetooth connectivity, a pair of USB chargers up front, wired Android Auto with Voice Recognition, and wired Apple Carplay with Voice Recognition. There’s also a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The GT-Line gets extra features over the SX variant. While the SX has a 4.2-inch multi-function LCD display, the GT-Line gets a 12.3-inch digital driver cluster. Amongst other extra features, it also gets leather-appointed seats, 8-way power front seats (with lumbar support for the driver), Panoramic Sunroof, Electrochromic Rear View Mirror, privacy glass (rear windows and tailgate), power tailgate, and an extra couple of USB chargers for back seat passengers.

Safety and driver assistance features are comprehensive. Amongst them are Downhill Brake Control; Hill-Start Assist Control; Trailer Stability Assist; Multi-Collision Braking; Autonomous Emergency Braking – Car, Pedestrian, Cyclist & Junction; Lane Keeping Assist with Line/Road Edge Detection; Lane Following Assist; Blind Spot Collision Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning; Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist with Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance; Safe Exit Warning; Driver Attention Alert with Lead Vehicle Departure Alert; Intelligent Speed Limit Assist; Rear View Camera with Dynamic Parking Guidelines; Rear Occupant Alert.

The GT-Line also receives Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse; Surround View Monitor with 3D Mode; and Blind Spot View Monitor.

The Kia Sportage Hybrid SX FWD Auto is priced at $45,950 (RRP) while the GT-Line FWD Auto is priced at $55,420 (RRP).
