Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series

The name Mercedes-Benz likely makes you think of luxurious, beautifully appointed, tastefully styled cars that grace the driveways of Fortune 500 CEOs, major celebrities and members of royal families from across the globe. Stick the word ‘Maybach’ in there and things get turned up a notch with the Mercedes-Maybach brand arguably occupying the same ultra-luxury, rarified air as Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

At Monterey, Mercedes-Maybach unveiled its first two-seater and sportiest model in its history – the SL 680 Monogram Series. Taking the AMG SL and spicing things up makes for a powerful sports car as well as something luxurious in which to linger.

Power comes from a 430kW, 4-litre, bi-turbo engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive ensures there’s plenty of traction available. There’s rear axle steering too.

A couple of two-tone paint finishes are available for the first models off the production line – with the Red Ambience variant getting Obsidian Black Metallic over Garnet Red Metallic, while a White Ambience version sees Obsidian Black Metallic contrast with Moonlight White Magno. The interior features sustainably tanned, Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather and silver chrome accents.

There are plenty of Maybach-specific touches – including the Obsidian Black Metallic hood being available with the Maybach pattern incorporated in Graphite Grey, and exclusive 21-inch Maybach forged wheels in a 5-hole Monoblock or multi-spoke design.

The rear of the vehicle sees taillights with the Maybach light signature, brand-specific rear fascia with chrome accents, unique diffuser panel and tailpipe trims with a signature horizontal bar. Inside, the digital driver display and electrically adjustable centre multimedia display feature Maybach-specific start-up animations and display styles. Further brand hallmarks in the interior include the steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and stainless-steel door sills.
