Leapmotor Arrives in Australia with All-Electric SUV

Leapmotor, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer in which Stellantis has a substantial stake, is to enter the local market in November with the C10, a mid-size SUV.

The C10 will launch with two levels – the Style variant and the Design variant. Both are built on the Leapmotor’s LEAP3.0 platform with power coming from a single rear-mounted 160kW/320Nm e-motor and a 69.9kWh lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The vehicle is developed with Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) technology meaning the battery cells are integrated into the structure of the car.

Leapmotor says the driving range is up to 420km (WLTP cycle). A maximum DC charge rate of up to 84kW sees the C10 recharge from 30-80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes. Equivalent AC charging will take just over six hours with an onboard charger capable of 6.6kW. Included as standard are both mode 2 and mode 3 charging cables and Vehicle-to-Load capability.

The Style variant comes pretty stacked with features, including 10.25-inch instrument display, 14.6-inch central display, six-way adjustable electric driver sat and four-way adjustable electric passenger seat, wireless charging pad, 360-degree camera, LED auto headlights, panoramic roof with electric sunshade, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more.

The Design variant gets some extras including 20-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, rear privacy glass, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel and front seats, LED rear light bar, and silicone leather seats.

The C10 includes four separate drive modes, featuring three levels of regenerative braking and three separate steering modes.

There’s 581 litres of cargo volume when all seats are upright, expanding to 1,410 litres when the second-row seats are folded. The cargo area has a maximum depth of up to 1820mm and a maximum width of 1100mm. The interior offers 26 storage spaces and 180-degree flat-fold seating. The hollow front armrest box allows for the storage of smaller items, as well as concealed USB ports and the wireless charging pad.

A Leapmotor app allows the driver to stay connected to the C10 at all times. Features include real-time car location, and remote air-conditioning control.

The LEAP Pilot Intelligent Driver Assistance System offers a comprehensive range of driver assistance safety features including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Control, Emergency Lane Keep, Front Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Intelligent Speed Assist, Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning, Door Open Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Autonomous Emergency Brake, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Sport Detection, Hands Off Detection, and Advanced Driver Distraction Warning.

The C10 has a 7-year, 160,000km warranty on the vehicle and an 8-year, 160,000km high-voltage battery warranty and it will launch with an offer giving customers one-year free charging via the Chargefox network when they take delivery of their vehicle before 31st March 2025.

Leapmotor Australia says it will have dealerships nationwide, with locations to be announced later this month.
