Isuzu Expands 2024 MU-X Range With More Efficient Options and Reveals Battery Electric Truck

Isuzu UTE Australia (IUA) is set to introduce a 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine to its MU-X 7-seat SUV range.

Arriving at local dealers this month, the 2024 MU-X range will offer customers the choice of two four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines – Isuzu’s 3-litre 4JJ3-TCX with 140kW/450Nm and the RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre with 110kW/350Nm. Both engines are paired to an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission, with 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain options available.

Returning combined cycle fuel economy of 7.4 litres/100km, the 1.9-litre engine

will be available in three variants: LS-M 4×2, LS-M 4×4, and LS-U 4×4.

Maximum braked towing capacity of MU-X models fitted with the 1.9-litre engine is 3,000kg, with the Gross Combination Mass (GCM) coming in at 5,500kg. Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is dependent on drivetrain, with 4×2 and 4×4 models coming in at 2,700kg and 2,800kg, respectively.  The 1.9-litre models have increased payload capacities, with the MU-X LS-M 1.9-litre  4×4 able to carry up to 735kg.

Isuzu Motors unveiled the company’s first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) last month. The D-MAX BEV one-ton pickup truck has, the company says, ‘been developed to meet a broad-range of commercial and passenger vehicle needs while retaining the tough underlying performance expected of pickup trucks.’

Boasting full-time 4WD, a 66.9kWh battery, 130kW/325Nm of power from two motors (a 40kW/108Nm front motor and 90kW/217Nm rear motor), the D-MAX BEV has, Isuzu says, a maximum payload of 1000kg, a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes and can reach 130km/h.

The company announced in a media release that the D-MAX BEV would launch in select mainland Europe markets such as Norway in 2025, and be rolled out to the UK, Australia, Thailand, and other countries based on market needs and the maturity of EV charging infrastructure.
