GWM UNVEILS IMPROVED & UPDATED 2025 CANNON UTE

GWM has confirmed Australian specifications and pricing for the 2025 GWM Cannon ute, which now boasts increased performance capabilities with the introduction of a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine – borrowed from its larger sibling, the Cannon Alpha – and 3,500kg towing capacity.

Red GWM Cannon Ute

GWM says the latest iteration of the Cannon delivers significant upgrades in refinement and technology as well as engine capacity and towing strength, and the ute is exclusively available in a 4×4 Dual Cab Pickup configuration and in four trim levels—LUX, ULTRA, VANTA, and XSR.

The 2.4-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine produces 135kW and 480Nm of torque. It features an advanced Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) that GWM says reduces turbo lag while maintaining fuel efficiency at higher speeds. The engine is paired with GWM’s in-house 9-speed automatic transmission.

A next-generation intelligent all-terrain system means the Cannon adapts vehicle dynamics for various conditions. Depending on the trim, up to seven driving modes are available, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, and Sand. The system is controlled via a centrally located dial, while the electronically activated rear differential (standard on 4×4 models) and front differential (exclusive to XSR) further enhance off-road performance.

The muscular exterior of the GWM Cannon sees it adopt a wide stance, sculpted bonnet lines, and aggressive wheel arches. There’s a distinctive front grille with horizontal bars and prominent Cannon badging, while practical design elements include integrated side steps, roof rails, and a durable sports bar.

Inside, the premium cabin strikes a balance between sophistication and durability. There’s soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door panels, while chrome accents provide a modern, refined look. The 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, with an intuitive, minimalistic control layout.

Additional premium touches include a redesigned steering wheel featuring the Cannon logo, an aviation-inspired gear shifter, and a smartphone charging pad with USB-A and USB-C ports. The 7-inch digital instrument cluster presents customisable graphics.

The GWM Cannon is equipped with seven airbags and a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety technologies. Standard across the range are advanced driver assistance features designed to enhance on-road confidence and protection. Driveaway pricing for the 2025 GWM Cannon sees the LUX Dual Cab available at $40,490, the Ultra Dual Cab at $43,490, the Vanta Dual Cab at $45,490, and the XSR Dual Cab at $49,990 driveaway.
