China’s GWM is set to introduce the Tank 500 to Australia in the second quarter of 2024.
The body-on-frame, seven-seater SUV will be available in either Lux or Ultra grades and will have a 2-litre turbo hybrid engine set-up delivering 255kW and a 648Nm. It’s fitted with a 9-speed Hybrid Automatic Transmission (9HAT).
GWM claims fuel economy of
8.5 L/100km combined. There’s an 80-litre fuel tank. The Tank 500 has a 3,000kg braked towing capacity and 750 kg unbraked.
There’s Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive with ‘seamless switching’ between 2H, AWD, 4H and 4L modes, and other features include an All-Terrain Control System with 11 driving modes, low range and rear differential lock as standard, Turn Assistance, Clear Chassis Function, and Under Carriage Protection. Ground clearance is 224mm (unloaded), and the Tank 500 has a 30-degree approach angle, 22.5-degree breakover angle, 24-degree departure angle, and a wading depth of 800mm.
Inside, there are seats in faux leather throughout or lush Nappa-appointed seating on the Ultra grade. There’s 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support; heated, ventilated and massaging front seats with memory and welcome function (Ultra grade); heated and ventilated second row outer seats and electric folding 3rd row (Ultra grade); a 14.6-inch Colour Multitouch Screen, with wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto integration; 12-speaker premium Infinity audio system (Ultra grade); 3 zone climate control; Front and Rear Parking Sensors and a 360-degree View Monitor; Auto Parking and Auto Reversing Assistance.
Safety tech includes 7 airbags, Adaptive cruise control, Autonomous emergency braking, Pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane-keep assist, Lane centring, Front cross-traffic and Rear cross-traffic assist, and Traffic sign recognition.
Pricing for the Tank 500 sees the Lux model from $66,490 Driveaway. Ultra pricing is yet to be confirmed.
