Continental Introduces eContact Tyre For EVs

Continental tyres has announced the launch of the new eContact EV-dedicated tyre in Australia.

Continental says the eContact is formulated to handle the increased weight and instantaneous torque delivery of electric vehicles (EVs), and is equipped with various innovations including ContiSeal and ContiSilent.

The company says that puncture protection, in the form of ContiSeal, extends tyre mobility and provides peace of mind for EV drivers who have had to forgo a spare tyre. The technology includes a sticky, viscous sealant layer that can instantly seal 80 per cent of punctures up to 5mm in diameter.

ContiSilent technology is designed to deliver a quieter ride, with Continental saying that a ContiSilent tyre contains a polyether-based foam within the inner surface of the tyre tread that acts as a noise absorber. It pairs up with ‘acoustically optimised tread pattern design and partition-type technology’ to block the path of sound waves and inhibittyre noise.

At the same time, on-road safety with the eContact is enhanced with a blade edge pattern and asymmetric sipe geometry that enables better wet-handling and braking performance. Added to all that, the eContact is designed to offer lower rolling resistance for a longer driving range.

Continental says the eContact can be fitted to a wide range of EVs, including Tesla, Polestar, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and MG and is now available for purchase at all major Australian tyre retailers.
